How to KILL IT on Instagram as a Small Business Owner or Creative Boss Babe

I love me some Instagram. Hehe. But really. I've spent waaaay too much time on it over the years and have learned A LOT. So today, I'm spilling the beans and sharing some mistakes mistakes I've learned so you can avoid them and simple ways you can sell your product and grow as a creative online! Let's get to it!

BE RESPONSIVE.
Whenever someone emails or sends me a direct message, I make sure to respond within the first 24-48 hours they send it. I know we live in a time where people don't respond until weeks [or even months] after, but be sure to respond ASAP! The sooner the better! This helps people to trust you [and the product you're trying to sell], creates a relationship, and creates community!

MARKET YOURSELF ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
I cannot stress the importance of this. I know it can feel weird, scary, extremely awkward, BUT this is HUGE! You don't have to constantly be "promoting" your essential oils, outfits to buy, or photo discounts. I try to only sell no more than twice a week. Yes market the product you believe in. Share the pretty dress you got. Share the new moisturizer that changed your life. Share photos you

ADD PERSONALITY TO YOUR PROFILE.
The biggest thing I see people do is have their logo as their profile picture. This prevents people from connecting with you! They won't know the face of the person running their account. Make sure to have a head shot of yourself: eyes open, smiling, friendly. These are things people look for when they pop up on their recommendations. Make sure your bio is fun, simple, and YOU! Share your favorite things aside from what you do. You're more than just a photographer, blogger, calligrapher, make up artist, etc. Share three things you're passionate about. Don't forget to add your website to your profile so people can see your product, an email option (if it's a business account) and to also include your location! 

ENGAGE WITH YOUR ONLINE FRIENDS.
The whole point of social media is to be social ;) I know it can be intimidating to talk to strangers on the internet, but I've seen the fruit that comes from it! I've met people ALL OVER THE WORLD! I've connected with people who live out of state and have gotten two photograph two of them and meet up - SO COOL. And I've also connect with people overseas! I started using the hashtag #spainphotographer since we are going to Spain soon and a gal reached out to me because of that! Long story short, I'm meeting up with her and her husband to take their photos next week when we go to visit! Isn't that wild?! An easy way to go about it is commenting on similar accounts. If you're a fashion blogger, reach out to other fashion bloggers. Comment on their posts. Tell her you love her outfit. Tell her you love that lip color. DM her asking her where she found those earrings. Don't be afraid to reach out! Be genuine. It goes a long way and will allow you to grow an online community of people who trust you! :)

POST CONSISTENLY.
Okay I'm totally preaching to myself when I say this because I struggle with this, especially lately since we've been traveling haha. I make it a goal to post 4-7 times a week. Make a goal too of how often you want to post, when you want to post, and WHAT content you need to post. Do you need to schedule shoots for content? If you don't have any content, edit an old photo - get creative with editing and cropping so it looks different! 

SHOW YOUR FACE.
Y'all I can't stress this enough. If you're a creative (photographer, jewelry designer, calligrapher, healthy guru) don't forget to show your face! I know, I know, it's awkward. It's so much easier to keep showing that photoshoot you just did or the pretty necklace you just made or the wedding invites you addressed. BUT. I PROMISE YOU. If you show your face, people will feel "connected" to you. They'll feel like they can relate to you. And they're more likely to buy your product. Kinda crazy right? The more I show my face on my Instagram (and do videos on IG stories), the more inquiries I get haha. I've meet clients and IG friends in real life and they always tell me "wow you're exactly like you are on Instagram." Haha YUP! Authenticity is keep! I read somewhere that you should show your face 2-3 times in 9 of your instagram posts. Believe it or not, people want to see YOU too! So don't be shy, do a little #FridayIntroduction and share with people what you do aside from your hustle. What's your favorite TV show? What's been the coolest thing that's happened to you this week? Where is the coolest place you've traveled to? Tell them about your pet. Share how you met your significant other. People eat that stuff up! :)
